GRIT’s Inclusive Education Awards

Each year GRIT presents awards to community partners that most exemplify best practices in supporting with GRIT parents and teams to create meaningful inclusion in kindergarten.

Congratulations to the following recipients for 2016-2017.


Teacher of the Year

 GRIT is honoured to present Kim MacLaren, kindergarten teacher at Evansdale School, with a Teacher of the Year award. Kim lives inclusion in her classroom and extends this to the families in her community. She consistently creates an environment of positive teamwork and where relationships with each of her students have led them to become confident and curious learners. Kim’s work to support families leaves a lasting impression with them – she is their teacher for life! Congratulations Kim.


Teacher of the Year

GRIT is honored to present Jennifer Domanski, kindergarten teacher at Grovenor School, with a Teacher of the Year award. Jennifer has been an amazing, positive and welcoming partner, who has been actively involved in working with all members of the team. Jennifer is an enthusiastic, creative and engaging teacher who truly believes in inclusion for all children. Connie Simmons was the developmental assis- tant who partnered with Jennifer to provide a kindergarten year for Kylah and her peers that was characterized with numerous moments of friendship, caring, and fun! Congratulations Jennifer!


Educational Team of the Year

This year we are excited to present the Educational Team of the Year award to A. Blair MacPherson Elementary School team of:

A. Blair MacPherson School was very welcoming right from the beginning of our partnership. They agreed to collaborate with our team in ensuring that not only one, but two, of our GRIT students were fully included and able to participate in their kindergarten classroom.
